Loving Linen

Hello out there. Hope you are heading into a wonderful weekend. Quick post to share a tag made to test a theory and enter a challenge - the challenge being Frilly & Funkie's "Get crafty with canvas". As I have used a couple of items I bought from Linda Coughlin's fab shop 'The Funky Junkie's Boutique' it will also be eligible for her Sunday Share challenge.

So the eagle-eyed amongst you will have spotted that the challenge asks for canvas and this is linen! OK, hands up, I don't have any but this linen has been applied to the card and worked in the same way I would have done if it had been canvas. The whole design was inspired by one posted by Tammy Tutterow (I can't find the original - apologies for that - but quite frankly just looking at her blog will be thoroughly inspiring, probably the very reason Tim Holtz has put her on his 'must visit list' recently!)

This embossing folder has become a real favourite and I wanted to see what would happen if the linen were embossed and inked (DI Antique Linen! somewhat appropriately :)) The Coredinations card element on top was embossed too, but with a SB die (thanks Sue Wilson) and pricked with a sewing too. The seam binding, from the FJ Boutique, was also died with the DI Antique Linen.

The flowers/leaves were made with some paper from my stash, and were 'tied' in a bunch with some cotton thread and some fab twine from the FJ Boutique. Quite restrained on the colour front for me!! but overall it came out how I wanted (for once!) Thanks for stopping by and for your lovely comments. Hope you all enjoy the remaining events at the Olympics (come on Tom Daley!!). Hugs, Buttons x

  6. This is lovely - I have some canvas still in the pack I so must have a play! I love the way this has embossed though and the antique linen colour goes so well doesnt it and I love the little bit of red in the middle - also I like your spotty flowers and leaves, I am in a quilting blog hop soon with dots and spots and I was thinking last night about doing a vase full of spotty flowers myself! Thanks for sharing.

  7. This is great and after all linen is very similar to canvas so a great idea to use it. love the muted colour effect too.

  11. Oh my word, my jaw just hit the floor! This is totally stunning. I LOVE the look of the linen and now it's something that I must try! I just adore using textiles in my art and linen is something that I haven't yet tried so thank you so much for the inspiration there!

And I love the embossed flourish at the top. I think it's a Spellbinders die that I have and again, never remember to use it that way. I adore the color palette you worked with here and your flowers are perfect with this piece.

Just a really sensational tag Buttons! Thanks so much for sharing it with us over at Frilly and Funkie!

    Hugs,
    Linda

  19. Hi buttons, I visited your desk for WOYWW 197 and have popped back to have a nosey through your blog, (love your work) and came accross your linen tag which I think is gorgeous. I just wondered if you could tell me what you used on the bottom edge, punch, die ??. It really adds to the finished look of your beautiful tag. Love it.
