You Decide...

Morning all. 'Bear with' as today's post covers a multitude of things.
Firstly there is a Design Team call out at Creative Expressions and as at least 50% of my stamp collection comes from CE, thought I'd give it a go. The challenge is to create a piece with texture.
Next, there are three challenges that this project was designed to fit too;

Still with me? There are two versions of this and I'm leaning towards the misted version but I would love to hear what you think...

Version 1. pre-sprayed

Version 2. Cosmic Shimmer Lava Red Mist added

I'm torn because when you commit to spritzing with ink it is a one shot thing. By that I mean there is no going back/redoing and even if you get right up close to your intended target (in this case the rose buds) it is still going to spread far and wide, casting 'shadows' in its wake. The control freak in me wants things more uniform. The creative in me loves that it creates unpredictable shapes. Hmmm.

A few more close-ups pre and post spritz as I know lots of you like to see the detail. Notice the added resist on the seam binding ribbon (from The Funkie Junkie). Stamp with white acrylic paint, sponge over DI Fired Brick then wipe away from the stamped elements using a damp tissue.

Design details: the background, the whitewash technique, used Sam Poole (CE) Journal Calendar Stamps and DI Fired Brick/ Memento Tuxedo Black. The frame was cut/embossed using SB Labels 13, and the roses were created using SB Rose Creations and Coredinations cardstock.

There are loads of office supplies added as embellies. I also chopped/added the chain pieces to the pin with some pearl beads. The tab is another Sam Poole Journal stamp on aluminium with red Pearlidoodles on top. The sentiment is from Sam Poole's Art Sayings set (can't live without that one!)

I have got photos of those scones from earlier this week but don't want to overload this post, so those will come later. Right, must away and link before getting ready to go to school; son 1 gets his GCSE results this morning and I think I'm more nervous than he is!!! He has worked so hard I just want him to be rewarded for his efforts and achieve his goals. Love to you all, Buttons x

NEWS JUST IN ! - 7 x B's, 2 x A's, 1 x A* and a place at 6th Form!!! So proud of him!!!!

  1. These are both gorgeous and I'd be thrilled to own either of them - that said as far as I can tell from the pictures (which are great by the way with closeups) I go marginally towards the one with the mist spray added although I know what you mean by 'no going back' once sprayed. Good luck with the DT application.

  2. Both are beautiful... the detail of the roses is so precious!! however i am more inclined to the first version :) hugs and kisses

  3. Good an you for having a go. Both of your tags are terrific but for me the first one is the winner. It has more clarity which enables all the gorgeous textural details to be seen.

  4. Have to be honest and say I love them both!! To begin with, I thought #1 but the more I look at #2, I love the additional spray - I think it's just personal preference really and how much grunge you go for! I do love the addition of the office supplies - still haven't added any to my work but keep looking at them. Takes a while to work up to incorporating these things doesn't it? Saw that DT call but not sure I've got time for that as well. . . . wishing you loads of luck with it.

  5. Hi Buttons, they are both beautiful but if I was pressed, really hard, I would go for #2, mainly because I like the look of the misting, even down to the look of the string once misted. I wish you the very best of luck with the DT call, your work is always so beautiful and original. Well done to your Son, excellent results! Crafty hugs, Anne x

  7. Imagine making us choose like that!!! I would possibly say that version 2 wins but by a slim margin as version 1 is so beautiful. Lovely richness to the tag.

  8. Hi Buttons
These are both stunning but I think the spritzing has it by a whisker :O)
Wasn't he challenge fab this time at OCC I am so honoured to be part of it. Good Luck with your piece, I'm off to check out a couple of those challenges.
By the way congrats on the GCSE results, brilliant news. We Mum's are always more nervous than them for some reason. I've had loads of Mum's today say exactly that.

  10. Huge congrats for the GCSE results - great achievement.

Personally I prefer the first tag, the non misted one, but i's only personal preference!!! Love how the sentiment and background the roses are on pops. It doesn't seem to have the same effect on the 2nd one!!

Good luck with the CE DT call up.

  11. Both stunning, but if you held a gun to my head and made me choose I'd go with the misted version. Congratulations to your boy on his good news- obviously he's worked very hard to get such good results.

  12. They are both beautiful Buttons, but from the photographs I would go with the first as the sentiment seems sharper, but IRL I love things that have been misted - so no help there then lol.
Huge congratulations to your son - his hard work has certainly paid off, and good luck with your DT entry x

  13. Oooh lah lah!!! They're both lovely but I favor #2 with the rich deep color... LOVE it! Also love all the metal you've added as it gives so much added interest. Fantastic! Thanks, Buttons, for sharing your art with us at Frilly and Funkie this week!

  14. Love love love your tag. I was in a bit of a tag mood myself this week and created one also! And I am loving both versions of your tag but I think the second one has an edge over your first. There is definately more depth with the mist. The safety pin and paper clips are awesome, as is the string! Some of my favourite embellishments right now! Thank you so much for joining us at Our Creative Corner. Hope to see you again :)

  15. I think I have to go with the shimmer, but both versions are gorgeous! Loving the way you have incorporated the office supplies and lots of gorgeous details in there. Thanks for playing along this week at Our Creative Corner.

  16. Both tags are gorgeous of course but I slightly favour the first one - I think the sentiment pops a bit more but how difficult to choose! Good luck with the DT call. Sx

  17. Congratulations to your son! What fantastic results! These are lovely tags, I'm not sure which one I prefer. I like each for different reasons. Just gorgeous colours and stunning stamping.

  18. Well golly, you have me in a quandry here with both versions. The overall layout and elements are exquisite. Your roses are just breathtaking and all the glorious office supplies...I'm in heaven. As for the spritz. I think I might have to lean more to the first version. I like the contrast in colors and the textures and patterns of the paper showing. With the spritz, some of that went away. However, the spritz does add more depth...so see, here I am spinning in circles..LOL.
Gorgeous tag regardless and best of luck to you on your DT call and congrats to your son..that's awesome!!!

  21. Hi Buttons.. Your asking the right person here I can't decide whether to have tea & coffee. Tee-hee..
I adore both but at a push I would go for No2 only because I love the effect of the mist But Whatever piece you decide will be fine as they both are winners in my eyes... Hugs May x x x

  22. They are both just too wonderful. I've spent 10 minutes going back and forth and just can't decide that one is nicer than the other. Love the soft whitewash stamping and the colors are exquisite. Gorgeous roses too and wonderful incorporation of the office supplies. And you hit all my challenges this week except Sunday Share - I think you still need to link up there as it seems like you used seam binding from the boutique. So thrilled to see this beauty linked at Frilly and Funkie and Our Creative Corner and even CC2C that I sponsored this week! Thanks for being a player with all those challenges.

    Hugs,
    Linda

  25. Yo Buttons! I like them both to be honest with you, I really like the amount of texture you have as it fits the brief totally. CE will single this out no problemo - in fact they will make you head honcho after seeing these.
    Great results in the exams!

  26. Gorgeous tag, love the layered elements.

  27. your tag is so romantic! and your use of office supplies was very creative! I love the color red, and your use of different products and stamps look wonderfully together on your tag! Thank you for playing along with us @ OCC.
I totally understand your spritz dilemma. But, if I had to 'vote', I'd say the non-sprayed is my favorite. I guess my OCD side wins over my creative side. :(

  32. Both incredibly beautiful... but being a shabby chic not a brights person, my preference is for the pre-spray - but it's all subjective! Your flowers are simply brilliant, with the drops of dew a really glorious touch... Staples and paper clips - genius!
