Hello out there followers and passers-by alike. Hope those of you in the UK are getting to craft in between the Olympics and that the heat is abating for those in the US (it does seem that you guys have been suffering over there). I've been playing with backgrounds again - thought I'd have a go at a faux verdigris technique I once saw on Splitcoaststampers, but being short on common sense I tried to do it from memory - big mistake!! Still, here goes...
It is a mix of gesso, acrylic paint, copper mica powder and DI Walnut Stain over an embossed white card background - oh, and there is some Ranger tinsel embossing powder in there for good measure!
Now that I've gone back to look it up again I know where I went wrong and will be having another crack at it v. soon (now you know why I've decided to do my own step by step guide!) Still, from every cloud and all that! the finished background looked ok so I added a flower border (Craft Stamper freebie) on acetate (with a touch of Copper Mixative and Alcohol Ink Remover on the reverse to distress it a bit). I tried colouring the flowers but it detracted attention from the fab butterfly. What butterfly?...
that one! It came from the August edition of Craft Stamper magazine and is designed by Indigo Blu (so a pedigree butterfly!) The coloured layer used DI Spiced Marmalade/Wild Honey. Like the bow? It gave the whole thing a more rustic feel than using seam binding so went with the brown paper sentiment. So now I wait desparately for a package of goodies to arrive which includes an ingredient for my Sunday Stampers entry this week - poor thing is just sat there, almost fully prepped and ready to go. Time to go bug the postie :)) LOL Thank you for stopping by and please let me know what you think - all constructive criticism welcomed so I can continue getting better. Hugs, Buttons x
Hi Buttons, what's not to love about this gorgeous tag? Love the butterfly and how it stands out against that amazing background and the flower edgeing at the bottom finishes it off so beautifully. Crafty hugs, Anne x

This is GORGEOUS!! I think the background is fab, never mind if it's not quite like it should have been, it turned out fine the way it is. Also really like the sentiment on the brown paper and I LOVE how you coloured that butterfly!!
ReplyDeleteOh, I LOVE this! The colours and images you've chosen are just great, they work so well together!
ReplyDeleteLove that background Buttons.......very textured. The stamped image at the bottom sets it off but I have to say your butterfly is gorgeous. The colours make it look so real that I expect it to move any minute.
