Four Wrongs Can Make a Right!

Hi everyone. Thanks for being there. Here's a great reason for keeping going when it seems all is lost with a project - it can all turn out right in the end.

Where do we start? Playing with alcohol inks on a piece of glossy cs it all started to go wrong and I was close to throwing in the towel. Then, flip over the card and, OMG! that patchy red-brown look is gorgeous! Let's stamp a few faux cracks on it. Oops, one blurred a little but it's on the edge so some brown distressing on the edges should cover that. OK, not bad although it doesn't blend very well being glossy cs. Reach for that Picket Fence Distress Crackle Paint. Goes on over the 'errors', looking good. Dries, and in some areas it's turned to gory pink! Argggh! Don't panic. Add some Walnut Stain Distress Paint over the pink bits and now get the cracked look with CLEAR Crackle Paint. Finally! A background I can play with. Phew! I am going to revisit that initial point (alcohol ink splodges leaking through) but not now.

Linda Coughlin (an unbelievably generous person) was kind enough to gift me a couple of  die cut chipboard large pocket watches. I added gesso over one, and then layered on Weathered Wood and Frayed Burlap Distress Ink. Loved the contrast of colour with the background. A touch of gold pen around the indent made it look slightly more upmarket and inspired the application of Tarnished Brass to the chipboard wings (another of Linda's gifts - told you she is generous!)

Every watch needs some inner workings and I love to see those on show, so an acetate face (appropriately stamped up) allowed the die cut cogs to show through. It isn't totally apparent from the photos, but by embossing them and adding Tarnished Brass Distress Paint to some and Tarnished Brass Distress Stain to others, it ensured they didn't get lost when layered.

And to finish some more stamping, some watch parts, the left overs from a black die cut edging strip, and a piece of curb chain (sold by the metre at B&Q would you believe!) Et voila! Turns out my original disaster became the perfect background to a die cut treasure.

I'm entering this into the following challenges;

So that's it for now, but please join me tomorrow for another DT piece for Frilly And Funkie, where we are By the Seaside. Until then, take care of yourselves, hugs Jenny xxx

  8. And she played and discovered then played a little more,
Her heart beat a little faster as she started to explore.
The paints, the inks, the stains were whizzing here and there
And when she got to the crackle
    She gave a delighted cackle
Nothing, she thought. should go in the bin
As fabulous takes a little time to percolate
    To make something GREAT!

  9. Hi Jenny, great project, and a brilliant write up too! So glad it came right for you in the end. It looks fantastic, your background "disaster" looks amazing, like weathered old box wood. Good old B&Q hey! I raided their chain department a while back - funny how you look at stores differently when you've got your creative head on isn't it? Hugs MMx

  14. I'll try again Jenny - my first comment has gone to??????
Alas and alack poor Jenny cried
Nothing I do is turning out right
Into the bin it all should go
I've definitely lost my creative Mojo!
Just then by chance the phone did ring
So those arty bits escaped the bin.
    When Jenny returned inspiration arrived
    And without too much angst
    Paint and ink flew
    Lovely bits appeared
    And before Jenny knew it
    From her talented hands
    A masterpiece appeared
To please her and her fans!

Th moral to this little tail
    Don't bin a so so
    Until it's had a
    2nd, 3rd or sometimes 4th Chance!
