Turning Japanese

To start this post I want to wish my crafting friend Rita a very happy 73rd birthday, and to send my thoughts and prayers to everyone in the UK being deluged by this rotten 'summer' weather. I can't remember the last time there were this many flood warnings out across the whole of the nation.

Now, I have struggled a little with the Oriental challenge over at Fashionable Stamping Challenges. I'm lucky enough to have some floral wooden stamps from Nagoya, Japan brought back by my wonderful OH after a work trip. However, working out how to use them got me muddle-headed. Then, a lightbulb moment from Tim Holtz's July tag challenge, and...

I used the blown-alcohol technique on gold mirror card using White Mixative, Stonewashed and Butterscotch alcohol inks. Then the cherry blossom stamp was used to create a border,

The corners needed punching to echo the black SB Fleur de Lis square in the middle, and the flower centres were created using CS Gold PVA glue (great for faux pearls).

The Sam Poole sentiment and the central flowers were all stamped using Flitter Glu and Morris Dance mega flakes from Indigo Blu (a must in anyone's crafting arsenal IMHO). And that was it! That's about as simple as I can manage, and a little different from my original red/black/gold ideas.

Time to go for today, but before I do please if you get the chance check out the links on my sidebar to blog candy from Trace and Vick. There is also a candy link to a new blog/shop called Crafty-embelies that have the most wonderful MDF and Ply shapes just waiting to be inked/distressed/sprayed or whatever else you talented people can think of. Thanks for stopping by and leaving comments. I am always so grateful to those of you who give your time to do this and will always endeavour to return the compliment.
