The Funkie Junkie 12 Tags of Christmas - Tag 2

Hi everyone and welcome. Time to continue on with Linda's challenge, The Funkie Junkie's 12 Tags of Christmas, sponsored by The Funkie Junkie Boutique. As my interpretation of The Funkie Junkie's Tag number 2 has reached its destination I can at last share it with you.

This one is all about embossing, but let's start with that background. As with Linda's it started with a manilla tag sploshed through Picket Fence and Frayed Burlap Distress Stains. I stamped over it with Coffee Archival Ink and then cut straight to the chase by spritzing it with Biscotti Perfect Pearls. Finally the edges were inked lightly with Walnut Stain Distress Ink.

One thing I learned on the latest Creative Chemistry course was to play with mixes of embossing powders. Previously I have used Shelly Hickox's 'Tarnished Silver' technique HERE, and even came up with my own faux rusted technique HERE, purely by using different embossing powder combinations. This time the trees were covered in a couple of layers of Verdigris before I then through a smattering of Black UTEE crystals in some areas. When you heat them thoroughly together they start to blend, giving the impression of shadows in the branches. The trick is to keep the heat on it as this encourages the Verdigris to split slightly, giving you patches of a more lime colour where the gold has come through. Love it.

The reindeer was triple embossed before being stamped with the same script image as the background. The scarf came from one of Linda's little envelopes - she lavishes so much care and attention on every order that leaves The Boutique, wrapping all the small elements in their own parcels topped off with those wonderful coloured seam binding ties. It's a shame not to make full use of them. And the finishing touches, a burlap strip and coordinating tissue tape strips to balance the whole composition.

Right, so this is getting linked up to The Funkie Junkie's 12 Tags challenge - Tag 2.
And as I've used one of my favourite techniques of 2013, mixing embossing powders,
it's also being linked to the latest Craft-Room Challenge, Time for Favourites, sponsored by Crafty Individuals.
Hope you can come back tomorrow for the card inspired by Tag 6. It's got a whole Scottish vibe going on!
Until then, take care of yourselves, Jenny xxx

  15. Wow, those trees are a smash hit in my book, Jenny! I need to play with my verdigris EP more. The entire card is just a feast for the eyes - so many lovely details to take in and savor.

And thank you for your kind words about my packaging. I always hope that people will be able to use the little glassine envelopes and scraps of seam binding. It's so fun for me to see them on someone else's work!

I'm so delighted that you are playing along again this year!

    Hugs,
    Linda
