The Funkie Junkie 12 Tags of Christmas - Tag 6

Hi everyone. I promised you a trip 'north of the border' yesterday so here it is...

This is my card take on Linda Coughlin's Tag 6 for The Funkie Junkie 12 Tags of Christmas challenge, sponsored by The Funkie Junkie Boutique (which now stocks Prima items - woohoo!!)

I stared long and hard at Tag 6 to figure out what it was that really appealed to me, and at long last I realised it was the plaid pattern in the Maja Design paper Linda has used. Remembering a fantastic 'Distress Paint plaid' tutorial from Wendy Vecchi (Happy Birthday Wendy!) I set to work. Using another of the Maja Design papers as a base Distress Paints and Archival Inks were applied as described by Wendy. The thinner lines were created using the edge of a ruler.

Next to be added were some Distress Ink swirls. These were allowed to bleed a little when spritzed with water in contrast to the defined lines/blocks already there. Over the top I used a Wendy Vecchi stamp to create a solid line in Archival Ink - in order to obscure the image and strengthen the colour of this stripe I stamped in one direction and then flipped the image to overstamp it.

The trees were a direct copy of those on Linda's tag, as was the cardinal (although mine was cut in Sticky Back Canvas before being coloured with Distress Markers). Originally the idea was to cut the 25 in the plaid paper, but then I liked the way the apertures looked, and filling them with Glossy Accents worked much better. Finally I layered on lace and burlap string which added to the whole Scottish feel.

In this case I think the pondering paid off for and will definitely use the Distress Paint plaid technique again. So what's next, Tag 7? No, that one has definitely got me stumped at the moment so tomorrow's instalment will be No. 9. Think I'm catching up now and with the addition of extra time the challenge feels even more 'doable'.
For now it's time to get some tinsel and baubles up at home before moulding some more Clearly for Art for another challenge entirely...
Hope you all have a productive and enjoyable weekend whatever you are doing. Take care of yourselves, Jenny xxx
