Vintage Travel at A Vintage Journey

Hi everyone and Happy New Year! I hope you've all had a relaxing Christmas break and can now celebrate the start of a new year to remember for all the right reasons! Over at A Vintage Journey it's the start of a new challenge theme, 'Vintage Travel and Luggage'. Let your imagination carry you back to the bygone eras setting off on an exciting journey for the New Year. Keeping it in Tim's style, we would love to see what item of luggage or mode of transport you would use on your journey, eg - think hand luggage, travel trunks, hat boxes, hot air balloons, ships and trains.

We don't expect your projects to be Tim Holtz product based; just use what you have and be inspired by his vintage style and/or techniques. With Top 3 badges/guest design spots and a randomly chosen £20 voucher to Country View Crafts up for grabs there are plenty of reasons to join in the fun!

Christmas cards completed for another year, and now it's already time to start on creating another year's worth of birthday cards for family and friends. Travel is always a great theme for male cards and for this one I was inspired by the adventures of UK astronaut Tim Peake, now circling above us in the International Space Station. It took a bit of messing around with Distress Paints and other stuff to get a real vintage look into space.

The globe die cut was stuck on black card before being dowsed in a mix of Black Soot, Walnut Stain and Abandoned Coral Distress Paints. Adding silver embossing powder over the globe made it look a little too 'new' so I brushed over the whole lot with black gesso, heated it, wiped off some of the gesso from the embossed area and hey presto, some of the base colours showed through! Flicking diluted Walnut Stain and Picket Fence Distress Paints over the top added the 'stars'. Then it was simply a case of layering up mini blueprint images, stamped onto manilla card and edged with Brushed Corduroy Distress Ink. The Idea-Ology film strip worked perfectly as a base for the die cut lettering.

So that's my interpretation of this theme. I urge you to hop on over to A Vintage Journey to see what my talented teamies have created. Let's just say it's out of this world!!! ;) Then it's over to you - the challenge will remain open for a month so there's plenty of time to get those creative juices flowing and link up your entries to be in with a chance to win!

Now all that remains is for me to wish you all a successful, creative and Happy New Year.
May 2016 be the best yet and bring you everything you need. Jenny xxx

I love the way the globe looks almost 3D and not actually adhered flat to the background and the vintage look you have achieved is so striking against the black night sky . Perfect selection of ephemera for the theme and your source of inspiration .
What a way to start your New creative year!
Wishing you a Very Happy Healthy New Year Jenny
