Colours of Autumn - Frilly and Funkie

Hi everyone. It's the second week of the Frilly and Funkie challenge 'Colours of Autumn'. Our host, Sue, says, "I love the colours of Autumn; they are so rich and warm. The colours of the leaves are gorgeous, the golds, reds and rusts are just beautiful! The challenge is for you to create a project using these wonderful colours with a small twist - you must include some leaves on your project". So here's my take on it.

I started this with some Maja Design papers from the It's Christmas Time set, proving it's not just for Christmas. As well as traditional greens and reds, there are some beautiful brown/neutral tone designs in this collection.

Having done some basic stamping/distressing on the first layer attention turned to the second layer. For this I used an idea from the incredibly talented Joanna (Asia King) from Under A Creative Spell. She can layer and use a mix of media in such imaginative ways and in THIS post showed how to alter papers with stamps in a way I'd never thought of.

So, having created masks for the leaves I stamped them, masked them and inked around them to create a far more interesting look for this card. Doing this and embossing another piece of the same paper gave them such contrasting looks.

The layering continued with burlap and stencilled embossing paste - the latter soaked up some of the ink from the lower layers and altered the colour, so I went with it and stencilled DP Scattered Straw on top to match/blend. It had the added benefit of creating a great contrast to the lace.

I embossed some acetate packaging and coloured it with alcohol inks providing the perfect foil for the autumnal bouquet.

I had so much fun creating this, using Coredinations cs, Distress Paints, crumpled kraft glassine, and Distress Embossing Powder. Do you like the acorns? I coloured them with Archival Ink, covered them with Glossy Accents and added Distress Glitter to the lower portion to add dimension.

Hope this has encouraged you to take part in the Frilly and Funkie challenge - 'Colours of Autumn'. There is now a chance for the winner to be invited to be a Guest Designer for one challenge as well as a random draw for a $25 shopping spree at The Funkie Junkie Boutique. Head over to the challenge blog and see what the rest of the Design Team have created for even more inspiration, then get creating!

Hope to see you there soon. In the meantime take care of yourselves.
Hugs, Jenny xxx
