Living Things at The Funkie Junkie Boutique Blog

Hi everyone and welcome. Suzz is hosting the latest challenge over on The Funkie Junkie Boutique Blog and she's called it 'Living Things'; "For this challenge the inspiration is animals or any type of living creature that you want to feature on your art! This will showcase our love for our pets, animals and/or our insect friends! Include a photo, stamped image, embellishment or pattern paper of a living creature in your art. "

The Design Team will choose their top four picks, with the winner being invited to join us in a Guest DT spot at The Funkie Junkie Boutique Blog and three additional outstanding entries will receive Top 3 Badges to display on their blogs. Everyone who enters and follows the rules will be entered into the draw to have the chance to win a $25 spending spree at The Funkie Junkie Boutique.

Now it may be hurtling towards that festive time of the year and minds may be turning to holiday projects but there is always a need for birthday cards. With my stocks running low I decided to use this challenge (and an upcoming showcase tutorial) to team some Prima Finnabair stencils and Prima Finnabair Art Alchemy wax to create backgrounds for a new set.

For this background I used the 'Ghostwriter' stencil and 'Old White' Wax Paste on top of some Dina Wakley Media Paint. To frame it some of the Tim Holtz Metallic Kraft Stock worked perfectly.

Last year my team mate Suzz suggested organising all those leftover bits and bobs collected over the  years into colour families, something I am really grateful for because it makes looking for scraps, stamped pieces and die cuts that will work together so much easier. The bluebird and sentiment were made from the same gel print, contrasted with another gel print in shades of red and gold onto which I stamped the grasses from a Wendy Vecchi set called 'Bravo'. Adding further layers, textures and some stitching helps to add detail to the card.

That's my take on the '
Living Things' theme. For even more inspiration the rest of the Design Team have come up with their own projects for this challenge so make sure you hop on over and check them out HERE.

For now, thanks for visiting,
