Compendium of Curiosities III Challenge 6 - Avila Beach

Hi everyone and welcome to my latest followers. It's wonderful to have you along for the ride. Determined not to miss another challenge deadline I've ploughed on this morning with an entry for the current Compendium of Curiosities III challenge 6 - Altered Burlap Panel. Check out the technique in your own copy of Tim's latest book then link up your own spin over at the challenge blog to be in with a chance to win. As well as a pile of goodies from the generous Tim and Mario there's also a sponsorship from The Funkie Junkie again this time! Now for my entry...

I was grateful to get a flash of inspiration from a beautiful Instagram photo of a sunset over Avila beach, California, posted by Paula Cheney on her Facebook page last week. Oh, to be transported there! Funny how the mind starts to work when soaked in Distress... I started spotting Pumice Stone, Antique Linen, Scattered Straw, Tattered Rose and Weathered Wood in that sky!!! So an idea was born for the colours to blend over a burlap panel.

Sunset blended I die cut an Instagram frame and cut 'sea foliage' from Kraft and Black Magic Coredinations card, inking the edges of course. There's also a few strands of stained seam binding in there too. The sea creatures, cut from the new Mini Sand and Sea dies, were coloured and textured following the techniques employed by Tim on his July tag - so effective..

Finally I added some Chit Chat stickers and a pearl coloured with Snow Cap alcohol ink to represent the sun in that beach photo - leaving the pearl shimmery just didn't have the same effect somehow.

Thank you so much for dropping by today. Your visits are always so welcome. I hope you have a great week ahead and get your crafty fix.
Take care of yourselves, Jenny xxx

  3. Gorgeous!! The texture you've achieved on your seahorse and sand dollar is perfect.

I got nostalgic when I saw Avila Beach in your title. My hubby proposed to me on the end of the pier there (he was a little panicked about dropping the ring through the spaces between the boards. LOL)
