Eileen Hull Designs Field Notes Accordion Album for #junkjournaljuly2023

Hi everyone and welcome. This month Eileen Hull's teams continue to share projects using her Sizzix Chapter 3 2023 new releases. As part of that today I'm sharing an accordion album made as part of the #junkjournaljuly2023 event, hosted and organised by Meg @megjournals in collaboration with Get Messy Art; details and her video series can be found HERE.

I followed Meg's tutorial to create the basic landscape accordion pages and then began to decorate them before attaching to covers cut using Eileen's new Sizzix Scoreboards 'Field Notes & Specimen Card' Die. You'll be able to see below how the covers have a layer of crackle paste painted over with a decorated frame (from the Sizzix Scoreboards 'Frame Pocket Journal' Plus Die)  embroidered felt flower (using Sizzix Thinlits 'Envelope, Folder & Flowers' Die Set) and lettering (using the Sizzix Thinlits 'Tiled Alphanumeric' Die). You'll see a few more of those embroidered felt flowers on the pages of this journal and I want to thank Lisa Hoel for her original inspiration for these.

Moving on to the first few pages/days you'll be able to see stitched hand-drawn flowers, leaves and brickwork alongside those provided by the base book pages. I've also made use of Eileen's stamps throughout to compliment the die cuts, like the Sizzix Thinlits 'Skinny Mini Elements' Die. Cutting holes through the pages in some places (for example in the window below) gives you a glimpse at what is to come, particularly because I've made use of both sides of the accordion pages.

Eileen can always be relied upon to provide the perfect tag die! I used the ones from her Sizzix Thinlits 'Card, Waterfall & Tags' Die Set for Day 4; it's even worth using the waste, filling it with pink card embossed with the new Sizzix 3D 'Keys' Embossing Folder. And the waterfall element has been used to conceal a drawing of an Italian doorway.

I made use of stencils, stamps and paints from PaperArtsy on many of the pages as each day was documented, and quite by luck discovered a map on which to record my journey south that month.

Getting to grips with some free-motion stitching has been fun and I even got to use some miniature oak leaf die cuts on my tree branch using a die from CoolKatzCraft Ltd.

Stripping things back on Day 10 was a challenge and a complete contrast to the busy buildings drawn for Day 11.

Moving on, more inspiration came from another Eileen team mate; Susie Bentz used the hearts from the new Sizzix Thinlits 'Envelope, Folder & Flowers' Die Set in colourful clusters whilst mine are all in shades of red to fit with the album colour scheme. And you'll see there's another cut away window drawn on Day 13.

The raised texture of the stencilled bricks meant I opted to stamp flowers onto tissue in order to transfer the images rather than stamping directly to the page. And then on Day 15 it was back to Eileen's Sizzix Thinlits 'Envelope, Folder & Flowers' Die Set to create the tuck spot and contents.

Here's where we go back to repeating those felt flowers from the cover, overlaying a busy background created with Eileen's Sizzix Thinlits 'Mini Slimline & Tickets' Die Set. And those same postage stamp shaped die cuts have been used with more of the hearts for Day 17.

I'm really loving adding hand-stitching to journal pages these days and it's in evidence with the embroidered stencil window below. 

Eileen's Sizzix Thinlits 'Journaling Card, Envelope & Window' provided the perfect little envelope in which to add my birthday message to myself, whilst the branches drawn on the following page are a nod to the wisteria I see from my workspace every day.

The pockets prompt was also easily resolved using Eileen's Sizzix Thinlits 'Library Pocket, ATC Card & Tabs', with the Pocket left open on one side to allow for more journaling cards. You'll see that new little Folder is also tucked in the front. And I drew, coloured and glazed the rose to sit on the Specimen Card window for Day 23.

One of the benefits of using both sides in an accordion book is that if you have stitched through the pages there is a readymade base for the design on the opposite side. And so it was that I just needed to add more paper scraps, lace, washi and stitching together with die cut flowers from Eileen's Sizzix Thinlits 'Shadowbox Frames #1' Die Set to complete Day 24.

The pages for Day 25 and 26 are a nod to family history research. Then rather than just add a plain postcard for the next prompt I die cut through it using Eileen's Sizzix Thinlits 'Snail Mail' Die Set.

Nearing the end of the accordion album, I used up bits and pieces from my stash to create the pocket and add altered lace flowers around the window.

Some final felt flowers, hearts and more stitched leaves helped to complete the final pages. I also added a large lace pocket at the end to hold the prompt sheet from the challenge.

Hello Summer Field Notes Album for Eileen Hull Designs

Hi everyone and welcome. This month Eileen Hull's teams continue to share projects using her Sizzix Chapter 3 2023 new releases. As promised in my last post HERE I'm back with a Field Notes Album using the striking P13 'Hello Summer' collection. It works perfectly with the landscape format of this new album design.

We start with the cover, cut with the 'Field Notes & Specimen Card' Die, decorated to compliment the paper collection with embossing using the new 'Keys' 3D Embossing Folder and flowers from the 'Envelope, Folder & Flowers' Thinlits Die Set. I used some Sizzix Cardstock in pastel shades and also included lettering using Eileen's 'Tiled Alphanumeric' Thinlits Die.

Moving to the inside front cover there are two vertical pockets holding matching tags and tickets; this is a great way to use up paper left over from cutting into papers to fit the landscape format.

The Hello Summer paper collection includes a number of adorable little buildings set in Summer countryside scenes - after fussy cutting around these I added some of the new flowers from the 'Envelope, Folder & Flowers' Thinlits Die Set to layer behind and extend the design across the width of the page.

The next page includes a horizontal pocket which holds a specimen card from the 'Field Notes & Specimen' Die and a tiny envelope from the 'Envelope, Folder & Flowers' Thinlits Die Set. A second smaller pocket is created using the folder from the same die set which holds a small tag perfectly.

The remaining pages are designed in a similar way, making the most of the paper designs and Eileen's new dies.

Eileen Hull Designs Sizzix Chapter 3 2023 Release Party

This new release has something for everyone with the perfect landscape journal, a huge treat box, a fabulous key design 3D embossing folder and the cutest ever set that has a tiny envelope, file folder, flowers and hearts.

Here's what Eileen has to say about this latest release;

"The Bigz Plus Slotted Treat Box measures 6 1/2” x 5” x 3 1/2” and can hold so many things- a set of cards, journals, doll clothes, ephemera storage or you can even use it as a gift box! This is a Scoreboards die which is specially designed to cut and score thick material like matboard, chipboard, leather, felt, fabric and metal. *A 9” wide machine is required to cut this die.

The Field Notes and Specimen Card die is a Bigz XL die that holds 5” x 7” pages or photos- a new orientation! The Specimen Card may be used to hold photos, as a journaling card or a shaker. Holes are pre-cut into the book spine which is adjustable from 1/2” to 1 1/2 in width. *XL Cutting Pads will be needed to cut the book cover.

The Envelope, Folder & Flowers Thinlits dies is made up of nine dies- an adorable mini envelope, file folder, set of small, medium and large hearts, and a large and small flower and leaf set. This die set will be perfect to create ephemera using your scraps!

The Keys 3D Embossing Folder is special to me. The keys all came from my Dad’s house. The names on the keys had to be removed because of possible copyright issues, but I love the idea of stamping or writing words on them. The detail on this is beautiful and I can’t wait to add Luster Wax to make the design pop!"

Today I'm revealing the rest of my Full Size Journal which has been decorated with papers and transfers from the 49 & Market 'Rouge' collection, all of which include die cuts from the new Chapter 3 collection (you can see the first few pages HERE).

We start with the cover, with it's stitched background and the flowers and leaves from the 'Envelope, Folder & Flowers' Thinlits Die Set, coloured and drawn on to match the papers. You will also see some hand stitching in the background, created by sewing thread through a die cut from the 'Mini Slimline & Tickets' Thinlits Die Set.

On this page I've used the envelope from the 'Envelope, Folder & Flowers' Thinlits Die Set as a pocket to hold a small tag and the new folder.

This page features the specimen card from the 'Field Notes & Specimen Card' Die with the new flowers on top, teamed with the 'Tiled Alphanumeric' lettering.

The flowers are also the focal point over a Folio Pocket on the next page; they echo the flowers on the cards in the pocket.

The next page also features the flowers, something that will make any pocket pop, and the folder is tucked neatly inside along with more journaling cards. 

On the final page the large envelope pocket is echoed by the smaller new envelope inside - glue together to hold special little items or leave unstuck to create an extra journaling spot.

Journal Fodder with Eileen Hull Designs

Hi everyone and welcome. This month's theme is Journal "Fodder"; creating envelopes, tickets, pockets, ephemera, small books, folders... anything you can incorporate into a journal as an individual item.

Eileen's Teams have been lucky enough to get to play with papers and rub-ons from the 49 & Market 'Rouge' collection - they are GORGEOUS!!! And I found that as well as being ideal for die cutting they also work beautifully when combined with your stamps. I also combined some of the new 'Ivory' Sizzix Luster Wax and Liquid Gloss to add shimmer and shine to some neutral Sizzix Cardstock after it had been embossed with Eileen's 3D Embossing Folders.

Once you've created all of your journal fodder it's time to play! Here are some of the pages which were later included in a Full Size Journal which is currently winging it's way to Eileen.

I used the plainer side of the double-sided 8 x 6 papers for the backgrounds and added rub-ons in some cases; these work well when you are planning to layer up lots of intricate layers.

Once the pages were constructed I machine-stitched around the edges and glued them onto plain chocolate brown pages (which also create the perfect border).

You'll see I've also added some hand-stitching detail, fabrics and ribbons to add to the texture finished pages.

I'll be sharing more of the pages and the completed journal during the launch of Eileen's upcoming Chapter 3 2023 release in July - can't wait!!!
