Anything Goes at Frilly and Funkie

Hi everyone and welcome! Not long now 'til CHA 2015 - are you getting excited to see what the Design Teams have been up to? And all those new releases... don't forget, you can pre-order yours from The Funkie Junkie Boutique!!!

That's what's coming. Meantime we continue to use what we already have and it's great to try new things with existing supplies. As the current challenge theme at Frilly and Funkie is 'Anything Goes' it's a great time to do just that. On top of a mountain of trade show samples I have any number of family birthday cards to create and here's one...

Having been lucky enough to get some Eclectic Elements fabric from The Funkie Junkie Boutique just before Christmas I was thrilled to see the latest Compendium of Curiosties III challenge is 'Frayed Fabric', sponsored this time by Inspiration Emporium. Tim Holtz gives the basic instructions for this technique in his latest Compendium of Curiosities III book and I was also inspired by the DT sample from the fabulous Hels Sheridan - it just so happened that she's used the same fabric that I'd chosen for this card on her own tag.

So without giving away the technique itself you can see the stitching on the fabric and the stencilled rays (Hels was right, this stuff does take Distress Inks SO well)! Down one edge you'll see some of Tim's Linen Ribbon and an Industrious border coloured with Alcohol Inks. Over at Simon Says Stamp Monday they are having a 'Make new friends, but keep the old...' challenge. I used an older stamp - the gramophone (that is new to me) with an aged heat embossed metal technique I've used before (taught by Tim and created by Shelly Hickox on Creative Chemistry 102) but this time I painted some parts with Alcohol Ink, something I've never tried before. Love the results! As you'll see from the first photo this is a die cut aperture card with a layer of plain kraft card added to contrast the fabric insert and strengthen the front - you'll see it's relatively plain as sometimes less is more! I added some rub-ons, die cut lettering and an Industrious arrow to complete the design .

So that's my 'Anything Goes' challenge card, and I now urge you hop on over to the Frilly and Funkie blog where you'll see what my fellow Funkie DT team members have in store for you - so much, so different, so wonderful!

I'm off to create more cards and will be back on Friday for a new challenge over at A Vintage Journey; hope you can join me then.
In the meantime take care of yourselves. Jenny xxx

  23. Hi Jenny! Sorry I haven't stopped by in a while!! I hate that when 'life' gets in the way of socializing (and crafting!) ;) :)
I just LOVE this card, Jenny!! Look at your layer of Frayed Fabric! Your stitching coming out from behind the embossed phonograph, looks like the sound waves from the music being played...could it be 'Happy Birthday"? ;) :) Your Dad is going to love this birthday card!! Another wonderful creation!! XOXO-Shari
