Our Creative Corner - Forgotten Things

Hi everyone. Can't believe it is 1st September already!! Where is time going lately? (gosh, starting to sound old now!) Anyway, the first of the month means the start of a new challenge over at Our Creative Corner. The very special lady that is Anne is our host for this month and her theme is 'Forgotten Things'. As crafters we tend to have so much in our stash that some things inevitably get forgotten. Or there might be a technique that you used to love but have not used or even thought about for ages. So whether you are rediscovering a forgotten item or technique we would love to see your creation at Our Creative Corner.

As you know I made a tag book to give to Tim Holtz during his recent workshop (you can see it HERE) but then realised I had nothing to give to someone else that I also think a lot of. A tag seemed appropriate, and in a grungy style, but using just inks didn't feel like it would be enough, so I flicked through my Compendium of Curiosities 2 and fell upon Tim's 'riveted patchwork' technique.

I love this one but haven't used it in quite a while so now seemed to be the perfect time. This was a very large tag so it meant there was plenty of room to play with the metal foil layering and riveting effects.

Next to add layers. I stamped the record sheet from a Stampers Anonymous set kindly gifted by Anne (told you she is a special lady) on some card and used the wrinkle-free distress technique to age it. Then came the die cut cogs, altered with Metallic Distress Stains and Distress Embossing Powder for a corroded feel.

The centrepiece was always going to be a heart, as I had the sentiment in my head from the get go. Layering and cutting the leftovers from die cut cogs created the shape, and after covering it with DP Black Soot, I used a technique seen on Trace's blog to fill the 'holes'. The raised areas were covered with Rock Candy Crackle Paint and Metallic Distress Stains. The key was given a faux rust feel with a mix of gold and Walnut Stain Distress embossing powders.

So did you guess who it was for? Kinda obvious for anyone who sees the BTS posts on Facebook. Yes, it's the lovely man that is Mario Rossi! And here we are on Thursday at the Coventry workshop after I gave him the tag (which he seemed pleased with)...

As for the workshop itself? WOW!!!!! Superb project, brilliant teaching, and a huge amount of work (much appreciated) from everyone involved. It really got me thinking about how to approach things, and gave me the opportunity to meet up with some beautiful people, including this awesome guy...

And a bunch of the best peeps who made it extra special (photo courtesy of Chris)...

From top left we have Alison, Chris, Brenda, Sue, Annie, and seated Rita, and moi! And behind the lens? Kath (without Buddy this time). The 'famous' Jennie Boxall had dashed off to catch her train by this time, but quite literally had us crying with laughter the previous evening. Keep your eyes peeled for a completely unique workshop idea, that's all I'm saying!! Thank you to each and every one of you for making my time in Coventry such a memorable and inspiring time, especially Brenda who prompted the idea to stop over on Wednesday and make the most of the wonderful company.

And so, we return to the reason for this post - 'Forgotten Things'. Please hop over to Our Creative Corner to see what my fellow DT members have been recalling, and then it's over to you!
Take care of yourselves, hugs Jenny x

there's serious workshop envy over here now!!! ;)

To be honest: double (or even triple) envy, as I am envious about (or is it "over"?) the workshop, about meeting all the lovely people AND the tag that wasn't meant for me *lol.

Seems you had a wonderful time!!! And the tag is definitely a gift to be remembered!
