On The Catwalk

Hi everyone. Thanks for dropping by and thank you to all those who left such lovely comments yesterday. I promised you something completely different today, so...

I mentioned creating a set of personal 'design rules' to help remove the indecision that often takes place in my craft room (after all, this isn't supposed to be an agonising experience!!) The first is "complicated background, simple focal point/complicated focal point, simple background".

In this case much of the work was going to be focused on the style concious lady and her polaroid catwalk, so the background needed to be straightforward so as not to detract from that.

Part of my birthday present included some fabulous stamps from Penny Black, so it was with great interest I saw they are sponsoring a great challenge blog at the moment - Runway Inspired Challenge. It takes inspiration from a current designer's work, in this case Zac Pozen.

I love this 'venetian summer' image, and stamped it four times on white cs to produce a polariod patchwork for this Italian fashionista to parade in front of. Her dress was created using WOW embossing powders and Perfect Pearls, both of which show up beautifully against black and glisten in the light. The same 'floral applique' flowers were also stamped/embossed onto vellum to replicate the lace that Venice is famous for. Knowing that this is just the sort of style on of my family members loves I decided to turn it into a birthday card in preparation for her upcoming celebrations.

In case you were wondering, the polaroid frames were made by using a rectangle die and a square die on pink shimmer cs. I think the balance of this card works well so this first rule works (for me anyway). Hope you agree. It has certainly speeded things up around here anyway :)
Until next time, take care of yourselves, Jenny xxx

  1. Hi Jenny, I loved this stamp the first time you used it but this creation is just stunning. I love how you created the frame and the white background is such a great base for the beautiful lady. Your rule has most definitely worked on this one! Hugs, Anne x

  3. Interesting to read about your design ideas - anything that cuts down on decision time has to be good I'd say. I know I do far too much waffling, arranging and re-arranging sometimes. This is a lovely card with the elegant lady on a lace background. Great idea for the polaroid type frames too. Have a good weekend

  10. Well I would say your personal design rule really works on this one (but then really, I think your designs always work anyway, but if this makes things easier then that must be a good thing). Loved this lady the last time you used her and she looks just as stunning and elegant again. That window frame thing is so clever and I adore how her dress pops with that lace that is echoed in the background! Fabulous card!

  15. Oh! WOW! This is beyond brilliant, truly amazing.
Have to say if the "Personal Design Rule" works and saves you time fine but your previous rules created wonderful things as well. I love the idea of the little frames. The dress is fantastic as it the whole creation.
    Have a great week ahead

  23. I don't know where to begin with this fantastic creation. First off your method of simple/complicated is design genius! Second I adore the velum stamped into lace technique and love how you carried it through to the fashionistas dress. Oh and don't even get me started on those polaroid frames! I love this so much I want to shout it from the top of the Eiffel Tower!

    Mer Ci for sharing!
