How high can you fly?

Hi everyone and thank you for all the positive feedback on my news. Still pinching myself at being part of the Frilly and Funky Design Team!!! And there's more to come! (not teasing, just keeping schtum for a while.

Well, doesn't January seem to be crammed full of birthdays! There are five alone in quick succession for my family, and then of course it's Tim Holtz's birthday on Monday. Loads of peeps from the crafting world have been making cards for him in response to Linda Ledbetter's final CC2 challenge. Well I've made a card using a heap of techniques, but as it is in truth a card for my brother (soz, but I'm time-challenged) it won't be winging it's way across to the USA, so I won't enter it into that challenge. Still, I want to wish Tim the happiest of birthdays ever as he prepares to wow everyone at CHA (yes Hels, it's not long now!) He deserves it for the amount of time and effort he puts in to sharing his genius with us all.

I'm so pleased that the 'whitewash stamping' on brown paper shows up on this shot (second layer from the bottom). The bottom layer was demo'd by Hels herself at Northampton - a spot of 'faux distress'.

A lighter version was then overstamped with the map - TerryAlie, I'm relying on you to confirm that the gear is accurately placed to draw attention to The Netherlands (where my bro' and his family live.)

Ooooh, this bit was tricky. My fav Stampendous steampunk balloon was stamped/embossed onto grunge paper that had been coloured with copper acrylic paint. It was a challenge to get the powders molten without   distorting the paper too much. Then I splashed on a little of the Metallic Distress Stains (a Christmas pressie that is being used daily - how did I live without these?!!)

Confession time - I made this postcard for my diary but it didn't fit in the end. Doesn't it work well here though. Oh, and another background layer, some 'riveted patchwork' that has been completed using two embossing folders and the diffusers (see here for a step by step).

Now here's a cautionary tale - I made these cogs out of grunge paper/Spellbinders Sprockets a wee while ago and with the addition of some Tarnished Brass DS it came up perfectly. Unfortunately I can't remember my base 'recipe' (should have written it down...) so now I'm gonna have to try to recreate it and put a list in the old crafting notebook (which still needs a decent cover - but I'm on that one:) for future reference.

Hels seems to have read my mind (she's clever like that.) This week her Sunday Stamper challenge is entitled Come Fly With Me, so this is of course going to be entered.
Now, back to the room of craft I go to get some more stuff done; it's a hard life but I'm up for it!!!
Thanks for stopping by and enjoy what remains of your weekend. Hugs, Jenny xxx

  3. This is completely fabulous! Love the vintage masculine color palette and all those layers, each more wonderful. I especially like how you double embossed the foil tape using the diffusers! And those gears are the best - hope you can remember the recipe because they are so fabulously rusty/grungy looking. Your brother is gonna love this one and Candy is right, Tim would have too! But maybe he will see it on your blog :)

    Hugs,
    Linda

  7. There must be something in the air (no pun intended) this week - I'd just finished moulding some wings in epoxy putty before finding out two blog challenges with a "flying" theme - I only made them to use up the leftover putty! Lovely card and I'm sure Mr H will appreciate it. XXX Keren
