Time for a redo

Welcome one and all to this neck of the woods. You meet me mid-squeal (a loud and extended one at that) as I have just found out that lucky ole me won Trace's one-year blog birthday candy draw!!!!! She has an outstanding crafting talent and her blog, inkypinkycraft, is a joy to follow. I promise to do my best to do justice to the Indigo Blu stamp sets (that have been on my wishlist for some time).

Now my turn to share. Reading Anita Houston's blog (as I know many of you do) a few nights ago she introduced the latest challenge at Our Creative Corner (which has a who's who lineup of designers). Their challenge is to 'makeover' a project you have been unhappy with.

Some may remember the project on the left - one created for the yellow/purple Make My Monday challenge and then discounted due to the lack of yellow. I mentioned at the time that it was inspired by the artwork of John Atkinson Grimshaw. He used some beautiful, soft, blended, muted colours to achieve an ethereal look on so many of his paintings, and this didn't come across in that first attempt. So it was time for a redo - hence the latest effort on right (created whilst watching Hels on the telebox).

In fairness there were no colour constraints this time, so I started with a layer of Memento London Fog on Ranger specialty paper. Then I blended layers of blue, purple and sage and more Fog (that's the great thing about this paper - it doesn't muddy no matter how much ink you throw at it). Next, add water with a thin brush and up comes some of the ink so that Wild Honey and a white gel pen can be used to create the moon and lit windows. I liked the moon last time and loved it this time.

A few elements got picked out with more of the same ink and this time a sentiment was added.

Although I liked the idea of vines/branches trailing across the original image, I decided to use the same dies in a more muted way with Coredinations cardstock, London Fog ink and some punched and blackened flowers. Having mounted the tag on More cardstock I used a SB Banner die to trim the bottom. A piece of died seam binding and a small UTEE embossed/distressed metal tassel was used to trim the top.

Overall I'm so much happier with this version and will be entering it for the Our Creative Corner challenge. I will also put it into the Fashionable Stamping Challenge - Let's Get Messy and Inky (you wanna see my fingers!) Right, way past my bedtime but it was important to get round to visit everyone's blogs as there have been some stunning creations on display over the past few days. Hugs to you all and thanks for dropping by, Buttons x

  4. I think they are both lovely - that challenge looks interesting too so might give it a go if I get chance. Have just caught up with your blog - you have been very busy! love all the artwork on the previous posts too (I seem to have missed the last five what with all the chaos that has been going on here!). Congratulations on your win too - Indigo Blu are my favourites at the moment.

  7. Hi Buttons, so excited for you on winning Trace's candy!! I did love your tag first time round but understand that sometimes we are just not happy with what we do. Love the second one too, mainly, I think, because of the moon - it looks so realistic and the colours do seem to work better somehow. Anyway, I love it......Crafty hugs, Anne xx

  10. I certainly enjoyed reading your post and understanding more the goal you were aiming to achieve. The first tag, albeit very detailed with a wonderful image seems to focus more on the flower flourish whereas the remake, WOW..the gorgeous flourishes are still there, but your eye is really drawn to the image. The moon looks fantastic and the white gel in the windows giving light and depth are perfect! Most excellent makeover! The triple layering and new border punch also are wonderful new touches.

Thank you so much for taking the time to join in our challenge at Our Creative Corner. Best of luck to you and we hope you can join us again next week!

  11. Congratulations on your win - brilliant!! I love both of these although I can see that the first doesn't meet the colour requirements for MMM. Great work and it was good watching Hels yesterday (and again today).

  12. Congratulations for your win of those yummy stamps!
I really did like this project the first time round. . . now I think it's soooo much better - how clever are you?? I saw what Anita did and it was in my mind to re-visit one or two things that are just laying there all sad and forgotten. . . . . trouble is there aren't enough hours in the day are there?

  20. Hello
I am looking at both Tags and trying to see where your old one fails compared to your re-make, because I think they are both stunning!
Your first tag has a wonderful 3D effect with the vine, I really like it. I agree you have more depth in your re-make and it does attain a softer finis; which is pleasing to the eye, adding the layers and your punched out border along with the embellishments certainly creates more interest.
To me both are beautiful, and I am so pleased you joined in this week at Our Creative Corner, it has been a delight to see your work.
    Smiles:)
    Sue

  21. Hi Buttons...wow, both versions are great! Sometimes when this happens what it shows is a change of moods, this tag change is great in that each one makes me feel different feelings. The new one has more depth and a calmness about it. Amazing!
